The Domaine de Mattefer wine estate is proud to announce the sale of its 3 delightful barn conversions. Large, bright and spacious, these properties offer the serenity of country living with the security of a small community and the luxury of a shared 12x6m swimming pool.
The Domaine is surrounded by the peaceful Languedoc countryside and has stunning views over the Black Mountains and Canal de la Robine, only ten minutes’ drive from the charming market town of Narbonne and 25 minutes’ from the superb Mediterranean beaches.
With the A9 and A61 motorways meeting in Narbonne, a TGV station, and a choice of five regional airports, this is truly a delightful and convenient location.
The first barn at Domaine de Mattefer was constructed around 1676 at the same time the Canal du Midi was being completed, and a farmhouse, stables and winery were added over the following two centuries.
There were numerous owners during this period including a colonel in Napoleon III’s army and Joseph Turrel, Minister of Transport for France. The initials JT can still be seen carved over some doorways and on much of the saddlery left behind from the days of horse-drawn carts.
The property was rescued and lovingly restored by the present owners in 1989, re-modelling the lovely stone and timber buildings to create a small collection of unique country homes.
